April 2018

Everything seems to be going over to IP these days and now even your old fashioned telephone as you know it has its days numbered, and that all important number seems to be 2025!

You may have heard rumours before that the BT network is going to be fully digital and now BT have confirmed this fact and given the industry a date for when all ‘dial tones’ will be switched off on copper phone lines as being by the end of the year 2025.!news-24

This may seem a long way off right now but like everything else in this fast moving times it will be upon us before we know it!

BT intend on starting with publicising the changeover with national newspaper, TV and radio campaigns from early 2019 and just like the changeover from analogue to digital TV’s a few years ago this change will be supported by OFCOM as well as telephone equipment providers and in the case of monitored alarm systems the intruder alarm installers.

Rest assured that we here at Chevron Alarms are not resting on our laurels, but we instead are already working closely with our alarm receiving centre, communications manufacturers and of course intruder alarm panel manufacturers to help ensure that this change over is as seamless as possible and that it will be done in plenty of time and with the least amount of cost (if indeed any!) and of course with minimal disruption.

With this on the horizon for some time now some of our existing customers from the last 3 or 4 years will in fact already have communications devices fitted that are future proofed and as such they will require little or no work when the changeover happens on their own telephone exchange.

Going forward all future alarm systems installed by Chevron Alarms will have the 2025 changeover in mind and be geared towards a fully digital solution which is going to be both cost effective and reliable.

For our loyal existing client base we will start to contact our customers on a case by case basis from next year and discussing exactly how the changeover specifically will effect them.

February 2018 – Chevron Alarms are proud to announce that there Senior Surveyor Phil Layden has recently been added to the register of Certified Trained Security Professionals (CTSP).

The CTSP Register

The CTSP Register has been formed as a means of registering Technical Security Professionals who are qualified to at least level 3 B-TEC in each discipline to work within the industry of the installation and maintenance of security and fire systems and it allows end consumers and main or sub-contractors to search the register to validate a professional persons competence.

Texecom & Apple………. Now Working Together

texecom-app-imageChevron Alarms are proud to announce the launch of the Texecom App available to download now direct from the Apple App store.

As a Texecom Premier installer for over 15 years we have been working very closely with Texecom to bring to market a way of integrating directly between there range of Elite control panels and the Apple range of iPads and iPhones without the need for expensive home automation systems.

This is building on the successful launch earlier in the year of the Android app which had already been released for tablets and phones working on the Android Jelly-Bean platform and above and available from the Google Play store.

With these new powerful but user friendly apps all that is required of the Texecom panel is for it to have a small connection card fitted inside the control panel and have it connected to the customer’s existing network with one cable.

The tablet or phone then works across the local wireless network as either a setting and unsetting fob or as a full user keypad allowing the system to be set, unset or part set.

March 2013Size of Air Sampling Head in comparison with a standard Smoke Detector

Air Fire Detection Systems

Chevron Alarms have developed an air sampling smoke detection system, designed to be installed in the larger new build domestic house.

The detection will comply with BS5839-6 Grade B Cat LD2.

This will use a required number of very small air sampling heads, about the size of the tip of small finger, that will be ceiling mounted and continually sample the air in the room and return via a network of capillary and main pipes to a laser driven smoke detection unit. The smoke detection unit links into the main fire alarm system.

Safe, sensitive and almost invisible when compared to traditional smoke detectors.

February 1st 2012 – Chevron Alarms celebrates its own 30th anniversary

When you think of the year 2012 what springs to mind? The Queens Diamond Jubilee, maybe? The London Olympics, more likely?

Well these are not the only celebrations happening in this momentous year of 2012 as Chevron Alarms celebrates its own 30th anniversary.

From our humble beginnings starting in the home offices and garages of Terry Hewitt & John Kelvey way back in 1982, we have gone on to become the premier installer of fire and security systems for Surrey, Berkshire and all the surrounding areas.

So 30 years in, what is next for Chevron Alarms? Well for one thing we are intending on staying the best by embracing the very latest intruder alarm standard of BS8243:2010 and specifying this standard on all our new monitored alarm systems thus keeping our customers systems fully up to date both now and for the foreseeable future.

Continuous training of all our staff to meet and exceed these standards is just one more way we are staying committed to giving the very best to all our clients, so here is to the next 30 years of Chevron Alarms when we too will be celebrating our own Diamond Jubilee!
